FACEBOOK AND TWITTER HUNT FOR REVENUE

Facebook and Twitter have helped make social networking a household word. Now they need to make money.
Efforts to monetize the popular Internet services are increasingly a priority within the two companies, with Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter Co-founder Biz Stone outlining several initiatives at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in New York this week.
And analysts and investors, in search of the next Google-like hit, are paying close attention to the breakneck speed at which Facebook and Twitter are adding new users.
While the popularity of the two social media firms has yet to translate into the kind of revenue-generating machine that Google Inc developed with its search advertising business, some say Facebook and Twitter have become so central to the Internet experience that they are inherently valuable.
“Both are new ways of communicating. And when you have a new way of communicating … you benefit people enough so that there is going to be value there,” said Tim Draper, managing director of venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson, noting that he regretted not having invested in either firm.
In April, Twitter’s website attracted 17 million unique visitors in the United States, up sharply from 9.3 million the month before. Facebook grew to 200 million active users in April, less than a year after hitting 100 million users.
DIVERGENT STRATEGIES
Facebook sees advertising as its primary money-making strategy, said Zuckerberg, noting that the company could eventually offer ads not just on its own website, but on other sites that interact with Facebook.
Stone said Twitter was less interested in generating revenue through advertising than it was in offering premium features for commercial users of Twitter.
The divergent strategies underscore the novelty of social networking and the lack of an established business model.
Pacific Crest Securities analyst Steve Weinstein said advertising is probably the quickest way for social services to make money in the short term, but a purely ad-supported model does not take full advantage of the business opportunities created by social media.
“The amount of real-time information being created by Twitter is unparalleled,” he said. Creating a better way to filter that information has great business potential, he said.
Because the value of social media sites improves as they become larger, Weinstein said the important thing now is for Facebook and Twitter to grow their networks and tread carefully with any monetization efforts that might inhibit that growth.
“The last thing you want to do is rush monetization and kill the golden goose,” said Weinstein.

MYSTERY WORMS TURN ON NORTHWEST CHINA HERDSMEN

An invasion of unidentified worms has forced 50 herdsmen and their families from their grassland homes, taking 20,000 head of livestock with them, in northwest China’s Xinjiang region, state news agency Xinhua said Friday.
The worms are packed up to 3,000 per square meter and chew through the grasslands like lawnmowers, leaving only brown soil in their wake, Xinhua said.
The agency described it as the worst plague in three decades in Usu, about 280 km (175 miles) west of the Xinjiang capital Urumqi.
Local experts could not identify the 2-cm (1 inch) long, thorny green worm with black stripes and samples had been sent to Xinjiang Agricultural University, Xinhua said.
“The pasture was green a week ago. But now the worms are creeping around, and they even come into my house. I have to sweep them out several times an hour,” Xinhua quoted one herdsman as saying.
Xinjiang has in the past used chickens, ducks and other birds to fight locusts, which are also a menace on the grasslands, but so far they have shown little interest in the pesky worms.
One local official said the worms might be moth larvae that have flourished in the relatively warm winter and plenty of rain.

It’s been shaped by conversations with my friends and also literatures. Honestly, i’d like to share many thoughts with them everytime. For me, a strong brand can create value across the business, and that’s why brand investment is increasingly a strategic priority for many companies.
A brand is a name and/or symbol that is directly used to sell products or servicesm. Jon Miller said. I believe, a strong brands may create options for growth, attract and retain talented employees, and promote share holder value. The grand must be a writing throughout the organization, providing the business with directions and purpose.
So, what is brand strategy? But before we reach an answer an answer to this question, we close the cunfutions and misconceptions. Brand strategy is more than marketing, communications, effeciveness, positioning. Having disentangled ourselves from several misconceptions. So, any brand strategy should answer the following four questions:
1. who are the customers?
2. What products or services will we offer?
3. How will we compete with products or services from competitions?
4. What resources and capabilities do we need to deliver these products or services?
So, brand strategy should tell us what to do or what not to do. It should clear, strong brand strategy, a company may offer products and services across a range of different sectors.
SCIENTIST FIND 200 NEW FROG SPECIES IN MADAGASKAR

Scientists have found more than 200 new species of frogs in Madagascar but a political crisis is hurting conservation of the Indian Ocean island’s unique wildlife, a study shows.
The discovery, which almost doubles the number of known amphibians in Madagascar, illustrates an underestimation of the natural riches that have helped spawn a $390-million-a-year tourism industry.
However, months of instability culminating in a change of government after street protests, have compromised gains in conservation.
“The political instability is allowing the cutting of the forest within national parks, generating a lot of uncertainty about the future of the planned network of protected areas,” David Vieites, researcher at the Spanish National Natural Sciences Museum, said in a statement.
The world’s fourth-largest island, known for exotic creatures such as the ring-tailed lemur and poisonous frogs, is a biodiversity hotspot.
More than 80 percent of the mammals in Madagascar are found nowhere else, while all but one of the 217 previously known species of amphibian are believed by scientists to be native.
“People think that we know which plant and animal species live on this planet,” team member Miguel Vences, professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig, said in the statement.
“But the centuries of discoveries has only just begun — the majority of life forms on Earth is still awaiting scientific recognition.”
Human demands on the land and decades of rampant logging have destroyed 80 percent of Madagascar’s rain forest, threatening hundreds of species, he said.
The study, carried out by the Spanish Scientific Research Council (CSIC), and published in the May issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggests the find of between 129 and 221 new species of frogs could double the number of amphibians globally if the results are extrapolated worldwide.
Almost a quarter of the new species discovered have not yet been found in unprotected areas, the study stated.
Madagascar broke away from Africa almost 160 million years ago, leaving its flora and fauna to develop in isolation.

RELAXING OUR FOOT

I read the news yesterday that there were dozens of such a parks in Germany, where nature lovers and foot massage aficionados could wade through rivers, brooks or ponds, felt different kinds of soil, and enjoyed the delicate art of foot gymnastics. Amazing!! I was imagine that i was there, such like “Jungle Queen”.
Because i stand and walk everyday, my feet support me the entire way. While being stifled in shoes all day. My feet have restricted circulation and air contact. But, some people really kind to give them a gift of foot rub.
Although machines that massage feet are becoming popular, there is no replacement for what the human touch can do. So whether I’m massaging my own foot or someone else’s, taking a few moments to explore the site and try some foot massage myself.
I will give a tips that you can try it at home. I read it from an articles.
- Sweeping and rubbing. A good general technique to start with to warm up the foot. It is always recommended to bring blood into the foot via circulation by rubbing it first. Grasp the foot in your hands and begin to massage the surface of the foot. Moving in one direction and with medium pressure, pull your grasped hand to the end of the foot or toward the ankle (depending on your direction). Be careful to use less pressure on the toes and inner center of the foot. Repeat this foot massage technique several times to initiate a rhythm and warm the foot.
- Thumb Walking. This technique is simple in that you basicly alternate thumbs with firm pressure along the sides of each foot. You may also slide the thumb from the top to the bottom along the side. You should notice as you apply pressure that there are tendons that run along the outside edges of the foot. These tendons can often be tense and are a great technique to use during a foot massage.
- Kneading. Using the fist to knead back and forth on the sole of the foot. Kneading uses the knuckles of the fist at the joints. The term “Knead” comes from the concept of rolling like dough with large pressing, rotating movements. Remember that the foot is not as soft as dough, so be gentle! After this, make a fist with one of your hands. Press your knuckles into the sole of their foot repeatedly, working your way from the heel to the toes.
- Cupping. Cup the foot with your hands and squeeze with the appropriate amount of pressure. You may move up and down as you are holding the foot.
Well, there are many of another suggestions, but, I hope it will help you to relax your foot. I do, at home, by myself or someone else’s.
INDONESIA’S ANTI-CORRUPTION CHIEF ARRESTED

The chief of Indonesia’s anti-corruption watchdog was arrested as a suspect in a murder investigation, an embarrassing blow to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as he seeks re-election on a “good governance” platform.
Antasari Azhar, 56, has overseen a series of high-profile probes into government officials and institutions since taking the helm of the independent Corruption Eradication Commission, better known as the KPK, two years ago.
He has not officially been charged with a crime and has denied wrongdoing.
Azhar was arrested Monday after eight hours of questioning at police headquarters as a suspect in the March 14 death of businessman Nasrudin Zulkarnaen, who was shot through the window of his car by two motorcycle gunmen as he was leaving a golf course on the outskirts of the capital, Jakarta, said police spokesman Col. Chrysnanda Dwilaksana.
He refused to comment on the motive or local media reports alleging it was a crime of passion – relatives of the victim claimed both Zulkarnaen and Azhar were involved with a 22-year-old female golf caddy.
The defendant’s lawyer, Denny Kailimang, would only say his client was in police custody.
Indonesia ranks as one of the world’s most corrupt countries and Yudhoyono’s vows to crack down on graft helped him win 2004 elections. Several key politicians, legislators, central bank officials and businessmen have been arrested since then, helping boost the president’s image and putting him on course to win another five-year term in July.
Few analysts believe Monday’s arrest will affect his re-election bid.
Azhar made no comment to reporters as he was led away by police.
But he said over the weekend his efforts to put high-ranking officials behind bars has earned him many enemies – implying his arrest was the result of a smear campaign. But he said he respected the legal process and would cooperate with authorities.
“I and my family are ready to face this case,” Azhar said.
Teten Masduki, secretary general of Transparency International Indonesia, said he did not expect the arrest to derail the country’s larger anti-graft fight.
“The achievements of the KPK were not his alone,” he said. “There are four other members and they will continue to do their work.”
Zulkarnaen was the director of PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran, a state-owned pharmaceutical company, and had been serving as a witness in a graft case.
